The Final Countdown

For the past several months Hania and I have been counting down the days until we could get on a plane and begin our adventure. And now somehow, we are leaving tomorrow. There is no amount of preparation or time that can really make you feel prepared for leaving for 2 months, thankfully it seems that everything is in order. Paperwork is finalized, flights are on time, and money came through. Yet I still have a knot in the pit of my stomach.

Personally, I'm a chicken. For most of my life I have always chosen to play it safe and not be daring, it's easier that way. Deciding to go abroad was something I've always said I would do, but now that I'm actually doing it I have to say my panic button is urging me to cave. Thank the Lord that our first stop before we leave the country is in DC.

Saturday morning we will be flying out of Sky Harbor and landing in Washington DC, home of our nations capital and my dear cousin. She has spent a lot of time abroad and has not only advice for us but all kinds of handy gadgets. She has already assured me that if we forgot it, she has it. Through this process she has been my own personal cheerleader, encouraging me to not be afraid and to go for it. And now as a thank you I'm letting her play hostess to me and a friend. This I think is going to be the perfect break between leaving home, and going abroad. Not to mention it cuts our international travel time by quite a bit.

While there we are going to take Hania to see the sights and monuments and soak in some last minute America before we head out. DC is one of my favorite cities, so it will be nice to see it and my family before I leave as well. However our visit will be short lived. We land on Saturday, May 11th and leave on Monday, May 13th. Landing in Rome the next morning at 8:35am.

As the weeks go by I will be posting updates of our travel as well as photos of our trip. Thanks to everyone for the support :)

Ciao
